[By Michael Jensen] Michael Jensen has been backpacking for 45 years, ever since his first trip in the Wind River Range,
WY in 1980. Although he has backpacked all over the west in deserts and mountains, he’s been to
the Winds over 25 times; it’s his favorite place to backpack. As a volunteer leader for the Sierra
Club’s National Outings program, he has led both experienced and relatively new backpackers into
this awe-inspiring wilderness, traversing many on- and off-trail routes.
Michael presented on the geography and history of the Winds, information about various on-trail
and off-trail routes, terrain, and weather, with numerous photos of spectacular scenery.
The presentation was preceded by a gear sale, where members sold and/or bought used gear from
one another.
