Educational Presentation
Buck Mountain-Pilot Knob Trailhead Steward Program
We have all experienced it on public lands: ill-prepared hikers, rock stacks, graffiti, LOUD bluetooth speakers, shortcutting switchbacks, unleashed dogs (and poop bags). Stewardship – it’s for all of us. Let’s talk about stewardship. 2024 will be the third year for the Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter’s stewardship project. What is it? How did it begin? How can I learn more?
Main Presentation
ADK Voices: Adirondack Mountain Club’s oral history project.
ADK is stories. Albany is a very old ADK chapter going back to the beginning of ADK. Think about the stories we lost. ADK Voices is preserving stories from the past and capturing stories from today for the future. These are stories told by the storyteller – in their own words. And they are your stories.
Adirondack Mountain Club Fire Tower Challenge 2.0
The challenge began in 2001 with Jack Freeman’s Views From On High. The re-launch of the challenge (2.0) is set for May 2024. There are several radical changes that will introduce fire tower hikers to public land stewardship all embedded in the challenge. This is designed to be a new model for “challenges” within New York’s public lands and waters.
