We hiked up Awosting Reserve, a remote part of Minnewaska State Park and not very interesting.  From there, we went on up to the Scenic Trail which lived up to its name with rocky cliffs, pitch pines, and views.  Then we detoured to beautiful Lake Awosting and sat by the water for lunch.  After lunch, we continued on the Scenic Trail to Murray Hill, where we encountered a cliff and a steep descent straight down about 8 feet.  Since we had a big dog with us, we could not go down that, so we detoured to the Mud Pond Trail, a wide grassy road.  We hiked to Mud Pond and back and had a beautiful day.
